Golf Instructor Issac Moniz

Where do you provide instruction?

Quail Ridge Country Club in Acton, Massachusetts

How long have you been a professional golf instructor?

12 years

What is your training philosophy?

I realize that every student comes to me with his or her own set of goals.  Once I determine what the student wants from golf, I structure a game plan to meet their needs.  Identifying early on whether a student is a visual, verbal, or kinesthetic learner is very important.  I am also a big believer in drills to reinforce muscle memory.

What are the three major flaws you find in most golfers' game?

The big three are:

-Grip

-Posture

-Swing Plane

Which is more important: the physical or mental side of golf?

The mental side has the edge but both carry a lot of weight.

What is your most memorable personal golfing experience?

Shooting 68 at Diamondback Golf Course in South Carolina.

What three words best describe the game of golf to you?

-Fun

-Rewarding

-Humbling

What is your favorite course to play near where you live?

Quail Ridge Country Club in Acton, Massachusetts

What SKLZ training aids do you use?

-Slice Eliminator

-Power Wedge

-Practice Pod

-Swing Accelerator Driver

-Swing Accelerator Iron

-Refiner Iron

-Refiner Driver

-Perfect Plane

-Smash Bag

What is your favorite SKLZ training aid and how do you use it with your students?

The Slice Eliminator is my favorite SKLZ training aid.  It works best for grooving the correct swing path.

What a fantastic Golf Pro. This dude helped me a lot with my game... especially my driving SKLZ! I used to focus mainly on my arms and driver instead of looking at the ball. When I addressed the ball my stance was way to wide and after initial contact, my head would always snap back very high, basically looking at the sky. On several occasions at dusk, I actually thought that the moon was my golf ball... yes, it was that bad. With a little sound advice and a lot of rapid fire drills, this golf instructor helped me fix the aforementioned problem. BTW, he also fixed my putting problem as well. I used to putt using a long putter technique/stance and grip, but instead of using a long putter I used a standard putter. He strongly recommended that I go ahead and purchase a long putter so I did. Problem solved right? Well not exactly. I can't really explain it, but somehow my long putting stance slowly began to morph into that of a traditional putting stance and grip. The only problem was that I was putting traditionally but now with my new long putter. It looked ridiculous and to make matters even worse, I was stuck with it because I had already sold my original putter. So I used a hacksaw and I cut about a foot and a half off of my new long putter, added some black electrical tape to the grip and I was back in business in no time. I also reverted back to my old long putting technique/stance and grip, but it's all good now thanks to my newly modified putter that this instructor recommended... I can't explain it, but somehow it just feels right. In about 5 or 6 months, I went from scoring in the mid 90's down to around the high 80's. Hopefully, in another year or two, I can finally stop sandbagging!

I can honestly say that my game has improved since starting with Issac (I actually never really appreciated the spelling of his name until now). I have broken 80 for the first time in my life with a personal best of 76. I have consistently shot in the mid- to low 80s this season. When I need a touch up, he quickly gets me back in the 'swing'' of things. I call him the swing doctor.
